How is the potential reach of a mention calculated?

Potential reach shows the number of people that have potentially read an article or mention or seen a video.

For articles, we calculate the number of potentially reached users using an own estimation model we developed based on public metadata and public social media interaction data. This model predicts how many readers an article might have reached.

For social media, we use a linear regression based estimation model, which is primarily based on the number of followers and interaction numbers.

For video content from Youtube, Facebook, Tiktok or Instagram we apply the view number data if it is available.

Why is there a potential reach displayed for some Facebook mentions and not for others?

Reach for Facebook posts is calculated by NMI’s own calculation method that uses follower counts and all types of interaction data that is available about the post creator and the post itself. In case interaction data is not available for a post, no reach number can be calculated.
