Sharing Surveys via Link

The easiest and fastest way to distribute any survey created in Zurvey.io is to copy the active link generated by the system. We’ll share some ideas and options later in this entry on how to work with the link.

You can get the link by going to the survey’s publish page and clicking on the copy icon on the right side of the link.

Important note: all surveys are active when created by default. Unless deactivated by the toggle on the left side, the survey is available via the link for respondents. If you deactivate it using the toggle, the link won’t be visible on the interface and the survey itself will be inactive, which means respondents will face a 404 message.

a) Customise Survey URL

Custom Survey ID

Zurvey.io allows you to generate unique, personalized survey links. These links can be customized by adding a Custom Survey ID, that will appear after the https://s.zurvey.io/ section of the link. The sole purpose of this feature is to make the link personalized and reflect your survey better.

Important note: once you make ANY changes in the Custom Survey ID, the previous link will become inactive. Therefore, don’t forget to complete all personalization and changes to the Custom Survey ID before you share your link in any way.

URL parameters

You also have the option to further customize the survey link by including specific information or identifiers, making it easy to track respondents or tailor the survey experience by using URL parameters. URL Parameters are additional pieces of information that can be added to the survey link. Common parameters include demographic details, campaign identifiers, or other contextual information. These parameters can be used to segment and analyze data later. This helps to understand how different groups of respondents answered the survey, enabling more targeted and data-driven decision-making. URL parameters can be modified even when the survey is activated and is being distributed - the original link will still be available.

How to use URL parameters:

  1. Go to the customize URL section.

2. Click on the plus sign to add new parameters to the survey link.

3. When adding a new parameter, you can choose from unique or collector parameters.

    1. Unique parameters are, as stated in their name, to be used only when a unique value is assigned to them, such as a user/customer ID. These parameters will not serve as filterable category dimensions on the survey’s dashboard, but will be included in the static exports to identify respondents if necessary.
    2. Collector parameters are to group respondents based on any value that is collectively true to them, for example: source of survey response (email, social, sms) or customer status (premium, standard).

4. You can also provide a name for them - these names will appear in the output of the survey export and filters so make sure the name is easy to understand for everyone who might work with the output. Parameter name should not contain space, accented characters, or special characters (like: &,%,$,?).

5. Once you have all the parameters created click on the “Save URL parameters” button to save them to the URL.

Important note: URL parameters create an empty parameter in the URL of the survey that is by default filled with a placeholder value. These values need to be replaced by the users outside of Zurvey.io. These values can be any number or string that makes sense for the use case, with the following restrictions:

  • Parameter value should not contain space, accented characters, or special characters (like: &,%,$,?).
  • Parameter value should not be easily guessable or incremental for security reasons.
  • Parameter values should not contain personal or sensitive information like email addresses, phone numbers, names.

Keep in mind that every parameter creates a new column in the exported Excel output and the values provided in the link will also show in the output.

F.ex.: e.g.: s.zurvey.io/customersurvey?source=source&userid=userid

When sent out the survey link should look like this (in case the source of the respondent is Facebook and their ID is assigned to be 100):

s.zurvey.io/customersurvey?source=Facebook&userid=100

Best practices:

  • Strategically use parameters. Think about what information is most relevant to your survey. For instance, if you're conducting a product satisfaction survey, you might add a parameter for the product version or the source of the respondent.
  • Regularly monitor and analyze data. Make use of the segmentation capabilities made possible by parameters. Regularly monitor responses and adjust your approach as necessary based on the insights gained.
  • Personalized links are more appealing and recognizable to respondents. People are more likely to click on links that are relevant to them, increasing participation rates.

b) Share Survey Link Directly on Social Media

You can share the survey links with added parameters across various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. By clicking on any of these options, the site will forward you to the account that is logged in on the browser you’re using. In case you’d like to use a company account, make sure to log in before starting the distribution, or switch accounts while sharing.
