a) Layout Settings
Switching to the second tab in the right panel of the editor’s view, you can access the design settings of their survey.
From top to bottom, the layout settings include the following:
- Spacing: decide whether you’d like a spacious, compact or cozy layout, where spacious has the most space between questions and cozy is the most close-set layout setting.
- Typefaces: you can choose between the following typefaces:
- Open Sans
- Roboto Slab
- Noto Serif
- Lato
- Georgia
- Arial
Typefaces can be set separately for the Title of the survey, the Questions and the Answers.
You also have the option to choose from light to normal, Semi Bold and Bold designs for the typefaces separately. Sizing can be set between 12 to 36 pixels.
- Colors: You can set colors for the text and background, and also choose a primary color for the survey (this affects the color of the buttons, the question numbers and the title of the survey). You can pick a color from the available palette or provide a specific color code in HEX format.
- Background Image: You can upload a chosen picture as background for any survey. The format should either be JPG or PNG and up to 4MB in size.
Once a background image is uploaded, multiple different formatting options become available. You can set the:
- Opacity
- Contrast
- Blurring of the uploaded image on a scale
- Survey panel - the layover on which the questions of the survey are displayed. Users can set the survey panels’ background color, opacity and background blur.
In the survey seen in the screenshot, the background image is shown with full opacity, half contrast and zero blur. The panel is colored light gray with 100% opacity and zero blur.

b) Display Settings
In the next tab, you can access the display settings of your survey:
- Hide ordinal number of questions: if you don’t want to display the ordinal number of questions, activate this button. By default, Zurvey.io shows the numbers next to the questions.
- Apply question tag for optional and required questions: If there are questions in the survey that respondents are not required to answer, Zurvey.io tags them as optional by default. In this dropdown menu, you can choose to only tag required questions instead. This can make it easy for respondents to see which questions they must answer or can skip. If you switch this toggle off, Zurvey.io won’t indicate to respondents which questions are required/optional.
- You can use your own Privacy Policy: By default, every survey shows Zurvey.io’s Privacy Policy in the footer section of the page. You can add your own Privacy Policy next to Zurvey.io’s to display your own additional policies regarding data management and security to respondents. For this, you need to type in the name of the legal entity (company) and the URL through which respondents can access the Privacy Policy. When all is done, save your settings by clicking “Save”.
- Show filling progress: decide where you want to display the filling progress of their survey - at the top, at the bottom, both, or not show at all.
- Show filling time estimation: you can decide to show respondents how much time it takes to finish the survey. This, by default, is shown for the respondents but can be switched off.
- You can also decide to provide respondents with a custom filling time estimation. If you switch this on, you can type in the number of minutes the survey takes to be finished.
- Turn pages automatically: by default, respondents must click the “next” button at each page turn to get to the next page. (You can add a new page break by clicking on the “add new page” button between questions in the survey editor). If this function is switched on, the survey jumps to the next page automatically when all required questions are filled out on a specific page.
- Use survey title as browser tab title: the title of the specific survey can be set to show as the browser tab’s title to provide a more custom look and feel for any survey.
- Use own browser tab tag (favicon): by default, Zurvey.io’s own logo is displayed on the browser tab tag. However, you can upload a custom favicon for a more custom look. Any image in .JPG or .PNG format up to 1MB in size can be uploaded, as long as its height and width dimensions are equal.
- Reset survey results: Users can delete all already collected responses of a survey with this action. Please be aware that this action is irreversible and deleted responses can not be restored.
c) Language Settings
Multilingual survey: by default, all surveys manage responses in the main language provided in this setting, and this function is switched off. (Read more about Multilingual surveys here).
Analyzed Language Dropdown: The analyzed language dropdown displays all languages currently available in Zurvey.io. It's crucial to select the correct language in which you expect responses. Zurvey.io will use this setting to exclusively analyze responses in the chosen language. If you anticipate responses in multiple languages, there's an option to select "mixed" language datasets. In this scenario, Zurvey.io's language recognizer will determine the language for analysis.
- Option to replace accented characters (eg. ä - a)
- Case sensitivity: When switched on, all responses will be converted to lowercase.
- Text Splitting Type: can be either subsentence, sentence or paragraph.
